Chef jobs available in American Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark

The American Embassy seeks an experienced full-time house manager/residence cook for a large embassy residence in the Charlottenlund area.

The employee’s daily duties will include, but are not limited to:


  • Preparing healthy daily meals for the family and guests, when requested. The applicant should be able to prepare and serve hors d’oeuvres for up to 25 persons and cook a 3 course meal for up to 10 persons alone, or up to 30 persons with assistance.
  • Setting tables and serving meals as required. The employee is also responsible for ensuring that visitors to the house are appropriately greeted at the door by a household staff member upon arrival.
  • Cleaning, to a high standard, the ground floor reception rooms, dining areas and kitchen of the Residence, including all appliances;
  • Purchasing or ordering food, ordering supplies, and reporting any maintenance problems with the residence, or with furniture, property and appliances;
  • Planning and executing events, calendar management, budget management, coordination with one household employee, and supervision of gardening contractors and any maintenance workers on the property. 
  • A key factor in this position is liaison with the Embassy, which manages the overall operation of the U.S. Government presence in Denmark. More specifically, the employee is responsible for suggesting ideas for events and working with others to ensure the event is successful and within budget.

The ideal applicant for this position will have previous experience as a cook with some experience in running a kitchen and/or household. Applicants should be energetic, flexible and helpful. The weekly schedule is on average 40 hours, but it is expected that the applicant will be available to work evenings and weekend hours from time to time.

Applicants must be able to speak and read English, have good communication skills in Danish and be dog friendly. Applicants must be residing in Denmark and/or have the required work and residency permits to be considered eligible for the position.

Annual leave is 25 days per year. Moreover the employee will be offered enrollment in the pension scheme with the Danish firm PFA.
